President - Mara Baer

Mara is Founder and President of AgoHealth LLC, a boutique consulting firm that helps organizations navigate the complexities of the health policy environment by monitoring and evaluating state and federal policies in the context of their business priorities.  Mara brings more than 23 years of experience to her work with clients including eight years at a national federal of health plans and in both the Executive and Legislative branches of government.  She is an expert on the federal regulatory process and has advise state government, non-profits, and for-profit companies on the Affordable Care Act, Medicare and Medicaid policy.   Companies that want to innovate and adapt to health care’s changing and uncertain policy landscape rely on Mara to help them adapt to these forces.  Mara’s roots are in the delivery and management of care.  She began her career as a social worker in a long-term care facility in Lawrence, Kansas and has also worked for a large specialty network in California, conducting on-site surveys of providers to ensure compliance with quality standards.

Treasurer - Daniel Cooper

Dan is the Director of Accounting and Reporting at Children's Hospital Colorado leveraging his experience as a certified public accountant and previous public accounting experience with Ernst & Young.  Prior to his current role, he spent 7 years serving Denver-area for-profit and non-profit healthcare organization, not-for-profit foundations, insurance companies and biotechnology companies with Ernst & Young.  He has both a Master of Accountancy degree and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver.

 

Secretary - Amalea K. Vega

Amalea is a Senior Consultant with Vizient, in the Purchased Services department. She has over 10 years of experience in the health care industry with expertise in hospital supply chain and inventory management, vendor relations, healthcare sales, customer service and contract management.  She has successful implementation experience of field inventory audit processes for healthcare company assets.  Prior to joining Vizient, Amalea spent nine years designing and implementing the field inventory audit process for a biologics and medical device company. Amalea received a Bachelors degree in Public Relations from Northern Michigan University and holds a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration and Leadership from the University of Denver. She is also a certified tissue banking specialist under the AATB.

Dana is the Founder & Principal of Forerunner LLC consulting. Membership Chair - Marissa Nolan

Marissa is an Account Executive in the recruiting industry and serves healthcare organizations. She has prior experience with patient portion estimation while at TransUnion Healthcare. Marissa has a long-standing passion for healthcare and wellness and holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Culinary Nutrition from Johnson & Wales University. 

 

Strategy Chair - Janet Pogar

 Janet is the Regional Vice President for Provider Relations for Anthem.  She has a passion for continuing to reduce the cost of health care and has worked on all sides of the delivery system – including hospital, physician and health plan. Janet’s career has included working with several physician organizations in Colorado Springs and Denver, including Physician’s Network (IPA) and their associated (and only physician owned, at the time) HMO in Colorado Springs overseeing the operations of both the IPA’s and HMO.  Since re-joining Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1999, Janet has held a statewide Director, and now Regional Vice President, role – overseeing all hospital, physician, ambulatory surgery centers and ancillary negotiations as well as numerous operational functions (credentialing, analytics, payment innovation and payment for value) in the Colorado market.

Registration Chair - Alex Stone

Alex works on the payer side of health care as an underwriting risk and operations analyst at Cigna.  She is also adjunct lead faculty at the University of Denver for the Healthcare Leadership program where she teaches the data mining, interpretation and implementation online course.  In her seven years in health care she has held several administrative roles across various clinical settings.  Her health care interests include population health management and community health programming.  Alex earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in public health from the University of South Carolina and a master’s degree in health care administration from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Marketing Co-Chair - Ian Jefferies

Ian is a Strategy Consultant at Kaiser Permanente in the Colorado region, providing expertise on the commercial  marketplace and advising regional leadership in sales & marketing. Ian is passionate about understanding the problems facing health care today and helping people get the most value out of their care. Ian has a broad healthcare background including serving as a first-responder and mental health professional in Montana. He has also conducted academic research in the realm of marketing and psychology. Ian earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Montana State University and a master's of marketing degree from the University of Denver.

 

Marketing Co-Chair - Allison Melun

Allison Melun is the director of marketing and corporate communications for Delta Dental of Colorado. She has more than 25 years of experience driving the creation and implementation of effective, integrated marketing strategies across organizations in a variety of industries including nonprofits, the arts, technology, and health care. She started her career as a writer and editor for 5280 magazine. Allison has a bachelor’s degree in history from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and a master’s degree in journalism and public policy from American University in Washington, DC. She was previously on the leadership council of the Center for Visual Art at Metropolitan State University of Denver and president of the Collaborative School Committee at McAuliffe Manual Middle School.

Kathleen is the owner of Colorado Senior Insurance, an independent insurance agency educating and helping individual consumers enroll in Medicare Health Plans, Long Term Care Insurance, Life Insurance and Annuities representing over 100 companies. Kathleen holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Operations Management from Arizona State University.

Nina is a healthcare expert with PA Consulting Group, an innovation and transformation consultancy, that believes in the power of ingenuity to build a positive human future in a technology-driven world. She specializes in enabling differentiated medicine. Spanning the consumer continuum from medical devices and data analytics to clinical research, she works to enhance shared decision-making for patients and their healthcare.

 

Advisory Board Chair - Everett “Eddy” Costa III, D.M.

Eddy served in the United States Air Force and has over 10 years of Healthcare consulting experience. He is currently an Account Executive with the Center for Improving Value in Healthcare (CIVHC), where he plays a key role in working with state and national healthcare executives to leverage Colorado's inclusive claims database to drive actionable change to support better health, better care, and lower costs.

Bill is the Vice President of Consultant and Employer Strategies for HCA Employee Benefit Solutions. He has greater than 30 years’ experience within various aspects of the healthcare industry. He began his career with a health plan and spent his last 8 years with that plan in a senior management role. Bill then joined an international employee benefit consulting practice and was with that firm for almost 19 years. Bill worked with employer clients on a national and international basis developing strategy, plan management and healthcare reform implementation.
