Since CIVHC (Center for Improving Value in Health Care) was established by former Governor Bill Ritter, legislators and members of the healthcare community have increasingly looked to its membership to respond to systemic healthcare issues in Colorado. CIVHC President and CEO Philip Kalin will discuss CIVHC's major goals and specific initiatives, including the All Payer Claims Database and other payment reform efforts. CIVHC's efforts here have a strong effect on reporting requirements for insurance carriers and in determining whether data collection can control soaring healthcare costs. Along with keys and sunglasses, in a relatively short span of time smartphones have become essential tools we absolutely can't live without. According to recent comScore research, 69 million people now carry a smartphone and 7 million search for healthcare information on their smartphones at least once a month in the U.S. How did one company ride the wave of this recent technology trend? How will it change the healthcare value chain? When healthcare organizations listen to consumers and solve patients' problems first, innovation and success follows. Peter Hudson, M.D., healthcare tech entrepreneur and co-founder of Healthagen, will explore ways to learn from this growing body of connected individuals, and show us how his company turned this knowledge into strategies and tactics to successfully bring a product to market.
**Please note that this event will be held on THURSDAY, June 2nd, 2011 7:00am - 9:00am, instead of the traditional Friday mornings.

Evidenced-based medicine integrates scientific research results with clinical expertise to determine best practices. It is not without controversy. Some say it is a path to improved care and significant cost savings, while others question its validity. Drs. Lalit Bajaj and Craig Robbins will share case studies in hypertension and brain imaging derived
from research at The Children's Hospital/University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Kaiser Permanente's Institute for Health Research to illustrate the many steps used to determine if the "evidence" is valid, and how it can be practically applied to improve care and reduce health care
costs. Join us for this fascinating topic.
