Getting paid for how you perform is not a novel concept. However, when it comes to healthcare, “Pay for Performance” has only recently made its way to the forefront – a fundamental change from “Fee for Service.” Today, physicians are being offered financial incentives for achieving specific, measurable patient safety, quality, satisfaction, or efficiency objectives. Does such an arrangement actually increase the quality of health care or does it create misaligned incentives? At this CHSM program, you’ll learn the answer to this question, along with the operation and impact of selected pay-for-performance initiatives, both in the public and private sectors. You’ll also walk away with a better understanding of how to make informed decisions about participation in pay-for-performance programs.
